Stress is the thing that happens to your physical body as well as your emotional body when something gets between you and an object of your desire. This doesn't have to be an actual object, it might be the train that comes between you and your on-time arrival at work. Or the cookie that comes between you and your desire to eat a healthy diet. Stress results in our body
~increasing blood pressure
~increasing the release of stress hormones
~increasing insulin production
~clotting of platelets in blood
~decreased digestive circulation
In the short term, these physiological changes are not detrimental to your body, but long term exposure can lead to
~coronary heart disease
~anxiety & addiction
~diabetes or obesity
~infections, auto immune issues & cancer
~heart attack or stroke
The really amazing thing about humans is that we are the only species who has the ability to get stressed about being stressed. This creates a viscious circle where the more stressed we get about being stressed, the more stressful our life becomes. Medication is the answer that more and more North Americans are turning to, however there are simpler and helthier ways to get your stress levels under control.
Be gentle with yourself if you do feel stress creeping up on you. And remember
A diamond is just a piece of coal that handled stress extremely well.
